I’m going to tell you exactly where you can stick your podcast.

Your company podcast.

At trade shows and events.

I’m going to tell you exactly where you can stick your podcast.  That company podcast.

I’m Tony Compton. Welcome to my Marketing Podcast!

So, what do you do with your podcast at your trade shows and events?

Dare I venture a guess that it may be in a modest, color-between-the-lines, very non-creative, hey, let’s do another hour-long podcast at our next trade show? Won’t that be fun?

I’m here to help.

At your last show, what was going on in the session room before your company presentation? Probably nothing. Put segments of your podcast on the screen and on the room speakers before the session. Fill the dead air.

Think about this.

What was going on with the monitors and sound system in your trade show booth, let’s say when you don’t have a formal demo or presentation going? Likely scrolling PowerPoint. Or exciting screen shots of your software. Load segments of your podcast and fill the screens and sound system to customize the booth experience.

More, in your next booth set up, set-up a clear-sided, one or two person recording booth - in your trade show booth. Have attendees enter the booth and record something of theirs or yours — a branding exercise — make it a fun competition, others can watch and listen. Take those recordings and put ’em on your podcast. Audio, video… People will want to find your podcast and want to see and hear themselves. It’ll drive your audience.

Also, for your next show, call the convention hotels. Inquire as to how your podcast personalities can voice wake-up calls during the trade show. Most hotels also have in-house video channels that support events. Find out how you can create a video loop of your podcast tailored to the trade show. By the way, you’ll start to out-work event producers and their promotional ideas.

Some of this stuff you won’t find on the event rate card. Just be sure to follow the promotional rules in your event contract.

How about this idea? Your company podcast on a fleet of convention buses! I went to a convention in Vegas and sat on a bus from the convention center to a strip hotel. 80 people on the bus. Took an hour to get to the hotel. On the bus, silence. I swear every one of those buses has a sound system. Play your podcast.

The point is you can creatively do whatever you want with your podcast content at trade shows, conferences, and events.

The things they don’t teach you in marketing school.

Remember that as I talk about that on my next podcast, which will be experienced, down to business, and right to the point.
