The Payments Industry and CX Mosh Pit at its Finest
Show Notes Transcript

The consumer education on payments and mobile payments is sparse.

Consumers and payment options are in a commoditized mosh pit.

Imagine influencing the customer experience from the drive-thru menu to the payment window.

Want me to want to use a specific form of payment?

Get to work.

Payments industry opportunity missed. Brand loyalty-building opportunity missed. Customer experience, satisfyingly generic.

I’m Tony Compton. Welcome to my Marketing Podcast!

The person in the drive-thru told me my coffee was two dollars and seventy cents.

So I reached for and handed over a five dollar bill. Deposited the change back into my storage compartment. Given no reason to want to adjust my payments behavior.

The payments industry mosh pit at its finest.

In my pants pocket under my seat belt is one of my credit cards. In the storage compartment under my right elbow reside papers, receipts, and my debit card. Also scattered cash.  My mobile phone rides in the passenger seat charging with that wire.

I also have an electronic wallet on my mobile phone, wrapped around one of my cards as the payment instrument.

And I have a crypto wallet also on my mobile phone. Crypto is also accepted down the street at another coffee chain with a much easier to navigate drive-thru. But I like this company’s coffee a bit more. And I also know I can get into the movies with crypto. So maybe I’ll use crypto at the movie theater.

More, I have an online payment account linked to a bank account and one of my credit cards. I think that online account could be used for this morning’s coffee transaction, but, I just don’t use that account for something like this. I probably could! I just don’t know.

The consumer education on payments and mobile payments is sparse. Even for those in the industry. Yet the consumers and the payment options are in this commoditized mosh pit. It’s tough for the average consumer to keep up, beyond the ‘We Accept’ stickers in a store’s window.

And somewhere at home sits my electronic watch, which is linked to my phone and my mobile wallet. It can also be used to make a drive-thru cup of coffee payment. But I’m not wearing that watch, for this, on this occasion. It’s not even charged.

Now imagine influencing the customer experience from the drive-thru menu to the payment window. Radio. Mobile. Quick audio marketing. Creative. Decisive. Entertaining. Covering and useful for B2B and B2C.

From the drive-thru menu to the payment window.

Want me to want to use another form of payment? Get to work.

Leaving the drive-thru with my coffee, I’d like to tell you about the car ride I shared with a sales rep to a client site. We aligned sales and product marketing in 30 minutes on that ride.

I’ll tell you about that sales and marketing ride on my next podcast. Which will be experienced, down to business and right to the point.
